You could use one of the web-based anonymisers that are out there. Most of them require some sort of cost nowadays, but there's a free one I use occasionally when I need to break out of the company firewall:
http://www.anonymization.net/ It's not the most feature-rich anonymiser but it'll do the job nicely. It basically replaces your IP with it's own one. For chat rooms, this probably won't work, so you'll need an anonymiser that runs on your PC. I don't know of any good ones, though.
