Folder Quota managment in XP
Hi guys,
Having recently bought my nice big hard drive, i though i should be nice and share out 2 GB of that space for my brothers to use. one gig per user which are accessed via their own pcs by mapping a drive (right click ony My network). This space was allocated primarily for saing work, but im finding that ill come home and theyve used up 6+ gig each and continue to store more things. Is there a way i can implement a quota system for each user to be allowed 1gb maximum? i only want them to be able to store their courseworks and such. Ive found that normal quota management only works for a whole drive and not folders.. ive tried looking in usual places for info but keep getting info on entire disk quota and nothing on folders.. can anyone tell me how to go about this? thanks KF

yes, (or no) quota only works on complete harddisks. A fully working other solution is to make two partitions of each 1 gig, and share those to them. They will never go beyond that 1 gig.

if you have a 2k server for your os, you can assign the limitations on a folder level.
The problem with permissions, is that its a physical limit that to get around you'll need to use partition magic or something to get around it. If you are worried about folder quotas, use 2k pro or 2k server.
