Network crashes explorer...

Hey guys n gals, i got a rather strange newtork problem, basically i got 3 computers connected up using my adsl router/modem if i try to connect to any of the shared files on one of the computers it crashes explorer and i have to restart explorer however if i go back into the folder i wanted to get to after the restart it works fine! This only happens to one computer and explorer will crash 1st time on any computer i cant fathom it any 1 got any ideas?

does your router have a firewall built in?
this could have problems with the firewalls on the other computers. just an idea!

If i was using ME the computer wudnt work at all lol

Yup i hav a firewall on the router but its not enabled. Each computer has ZoneAlarm Pro on it but it only happens on the 1 box, gettin in to the other boxs first time

So which OS do you use on the computer that crashes? Windows 2000, Windows XP?

first thing you need to find is the one thing thats different about that pc to make it a problem, have you looked at the installed protocols for the network setup of that one? maybe reinstall them?.

it might be worth looking at the propertys of the network card itself as well, 10mb / 100 mbs full duplex mode, auto ect. it maybe that the card isnt quite upto the same spec's as the others in the network causing a bottleneck effecting the whole network when its called, it may even be as simple as one of the cards is turned off in the power management setting to save power (might explain why it crashes first time but works second, as the first call wakes it up).

track down the difference the problem should (hopefully) stare you in the face.

Something that can also severely affect the network is a defective cable. Replace the cable on the conflicting pc to see if this is the problem.
