sounds like you have the hard part over with.

Connect your Desktop to the router (did you finially get a Network card for your desktop, or are you going to connect via USB??)

(I am not familiar with this specific router, so I am going to guess that by default it is set up to accept at least 4 machines without tinkering with the router OPTIONS, but in any case you might want to browse through the router options to see the different ways you can set things up.)

What Operating systems are you using on the computers??

For WINXP:
If you have WinXP on both systems then it should be an easy matter to run the networking Wizard on each machine. Give each machine a unique name and for the name of your network you can call it something like JAMES LAN (you can name it almost anything).

After completing the networking wizard on both machines and then rebooting, then ON EACH Machine you need to set up sharing. If you want to share an entire drive (other than your primary (C: drive--or whichever windowsXP is on) just right click on that drive, choose sharing and security and fill in the appropriate checkboxes to allow sharing. (there is also an option to "allow others to change/modify files"--this lets you manipulate files from any computer connected to your network.)

also, in your Internet options you need to choose the appropriate option (under the connections tab) to never use the dialup, and autodetect the lan settings.

You need the USB driver of this router in order to use it with the USB port. The correct way to do this is first install USB driver, next plug USB device; if you do the other way you have to remove the device form System Manager, unplug, and start over.

Hey guys. I have a problem. I am setting up a wireless network. I have a motorola sbg 900 modem/gateway. my laptop and my desktop pc are both sharing the internet connection w/o problems. however, i ran the windows xp networking wizard and the desktop pc can see my laptop but my laptop cannot see my desktop. the workgroup is the same name. I have tried just about everything. Do i need a wireless card for the desktop? can you help. thanks
