Hubs and switches don't have an IP, it are only intelligent or dumb 'repeaters'.

networking
There are a couple of things you can check out. Make sure you are in the same workgroup first off. If they are not in the same work group you can not see each other but you can still get to the net. Another thing is you can only have 4 computers on a network without using server software, again you can still see the net but will not see the 5th person. iAvalance is right about the hubs and switches just make sure you have a switch and not a router, routers do have Ip's. Something else you can check is to see if you have file and printer sharing installed and if you do make sure both Pc's have something shared. Hope this helps you out.

Well, since your internet connection is working, it sounds like both nodes can see each other, but just to be sure try pinging each of them from each workstation. Then you should run the network setup wizard on both PCs and restart. As Drakin pointed out, make sure you have something shared on both also. Once you have this setup, you should be able to go to My Network Places and map the shared drive or folder.
Another consideration is if you are running a firewall. I run Norton, and I had to add the IP of the PC running on my wireless network to trusted networks. I wouldn't use the firewall that comes with XP at all. I hope this helps.
