NAsty mobo ermergency
Like a newb I went to try and update my bios, the dang system was running fine... but anyways. I update my bios using "easy flash" downloaded the newest version, and stuffed it on a floppy, rebooted and started the process. Bios picked up the new version and started doing its thing: k8v1 found, copying, deleting old, and BAM flash failed, now when i turn the machine on all i get is my pretty lights and fans, system just hangs, no bios no nothing, i tried clearing the cmos and such, in hopes and prayers, nada............. sooooo now what, do i have to unhook the whole kit and try to send the mobo back, or can it be done by local compu shop gurus to get it flashed, this really makes me sick too, the darn machine was running beautifully fine =(

oooouch! chances are that board is history, no even your local pc GOD would be able to sort that out. 1st thing to do is contact the manufacturers of the board and ask about warrenty replacement procedures.

Or like I previously said, contact manufacturer/possibly local pc shop for replacement BIOS chip...as the mobo is otherwise still functional
..but then again, it just might be one where BIOS-chip is not removable, I think there are mobos like that nowadays...

Is the mobo in question the one mentioned in your sig? In that case does this apply:

Googled for it.. But then again, this prolly wont work if your pc wont do anything ![]() But then again, what would BIOS autorecovery cd benefit if you can't run it??? Is it meant to be used after failed flashing and before turning power off??

I see where the bios chip is, and it looks like it can be removed, so ill first get in contact with my local pc dude, hes and asus and gigabyte man, so he might be able to get a k8v bios chip, fingers crossed, if not its brand new, no overclocking was done or anything, so hopefully the warranty will be good for something.

Sorry I am late with Fletch, but If you know someone who has the same Mobo, you can fairly easily do a HOTFLASH to fix your problem.
Basically you boot up the good board to the point where you are ready to flash, then you swap the BIOS chips (leave the machine running), then FLASH the (old, replaced) bios. Put the bios's back where they belong and you should be in business. The other option is to Get a new/replaced bios from your MOBO Mnfr.

Note to self, if theres nothing wrong with the BIOS, leave it the F alone =)

I also learned my lession the hardway.
Upgraded the drivers an on older netgear router and now it does not work at all, and I have not way to reload the original firmware. What a waste. Oh well, lession learned.
