primary ide gone haywire!

I do not know why but my primary ide slot has gone weird, it aint the cables, i tested them, it cannot tlk to any device, where as ide slot 2 can

bios says they are both turned on and in device manager both seem to be fine,

any ideas would be gr8, thanks, andy

What mobo and what OS are you talking about???

Without more info to go on....my GENERIC answer (it should still work) is to do the following:

Go into your device manager
-rt click and DELETE the PRIMARY IDE Channel entry (it should be located under IDE ATA/ADPTI Controllers[

might as well DELETE the SECONDARY IDE Channel entry too.

Reboot your system and let windows ?????? reinstall it automatically.

Hopefully that should help ya out.

My specs are

xp home edition

msi mobo socket 478, nothin sparky

256 ram

2.2 celeron

geforce 4

heelp plz m8es

how can you boot if your primary IDE is down?
