Unhappy Motherboard Beeps

I just got this motherboard for an older computer. It's a FIC PAG-2130 Socket 7 ATX Motherboard (http://www.fic.com.tw/support/mothe...px?model_id=104). I have a K6-2 450 CPU on this board. For some reason, almost every time I turn the computer on, it beeps. This doesn't happen all the time, just about 95% of the time. But it seems if I change up a setting, say a jumper, or unplug something and plug it back in, it will start up fine. But when I shut it off, and try and turn it back on it beeps again. It doesn't just give a long beep, it beeps then there is silence, then it beeps again, and it does the samething as long as it's on. When it does this, it doesn't show anything on the screen. I thought it might be a memory problem, but I'm not sure. Clearing the CMOS doesn't help this either.

but i discovered something. if i turn it on, and it beeps, all i have to do is turn it off and back on again until it boots up without beeping. however, even when there is no beeping, and it seems to start booting up, it doesn't get past the detection of the master and slave drives. so basically it says, detecting primary master: found 'such and such' drive; detecting primary slave: found 'such and such' drive. then it stops right there. it won't go any farther. plus, at the top where it says memory test, it says memory test: 57344K OK + 8192K shared memory (for onboard video).

I emailed the tech support last night and received a responce tonight. Here's what they said about the beeping.

"The beep error refers to the memory not synchronizing with the MB correctly. Thus the system will beep in this manner."

well the running of the system is kinda odd. even if it doesn't give a beeping error, it won't get past the the detection of the primary master and slave. it does detect both master and slave drives, but it just won't continue to boot after that.

Turning your speakers off probably wont help either. This is a function of the mobo and is coming from the mobo itself. Just like the single beep when the video card is detected.

I hate to say this but that is like turning the car radio up so you can't hear that "funny noise" coming from under the hood.

Most computers have a beep code for errors and problems, I would reply to the response you got from tech support requesting more specific info and possible fixes. This problem should not be ignored.

I didnt actually mean the external speakers of the pc, i meant the pc speaker attached or included in the motherboard. Dependant on the mother board it can be found in bios or a little attachment plugged into the board.

I would check through all other routes first obviously but if no solution can be found, rarther than be annoyed by the constant beep turnin off the speaker would grant peace. This was the point i was makin, im not sayin ignore the problem at all!

Also check your motherboard book or maker website for the beep codes it mayb quicker than contacting tech support.

The beeping in your machine is it checking your hardware in your computer. When it beeps once it means everything is ok. Certain beeps mean certain things. When it does it a couple of times it may mean that you have something wrong with your video card. Just check the manual for the mobo and you should find what it all means.
