I have the same motherboard, but had 512Mb, Pc 3200 DDRAM (400FSB) which ran like a dream for a long time now. I thought of upgrading, and bought a 1GB Kingston with the same FSB and 8 chips per side. Both have the same modules, but different manufacturers. These are installed in slots 1 & 3 as per the manual.
My pc now reboots by itself in the middle of something. No time for blue screens. (!!!!!!!!!)I read about the incompatability of Kingston memory to this m-board, and will now change to old cheapo, but..... Does anyone perhaps know what the configuration should be if having 512Mb in one slot, and 1Gb in another? Which slots, and if they should be the same size? |

I think you should put them in banks 1 & 2, because they are not of the same size. You can't do dual rate stuff with those. Make sure the 1G one is in the first slot (reduces the overflow lookups).
I remember some stuff about multiple vendors biting each other. Don't know what exactly is true in that, but it may be timing issues between the memory. I run quite solid a kingston 1G with a 512MB stick that was shipped with my Mac...

Yes, the Asus A7N8X is quite picky with memory. I had some problems with Kingston, then I put cheap OEM memory and it worked flawless in dual channel during all the time that I had this board. I ran it with 2 x 256 and 1 x 512 in Dual Channel mode.
