Want to remove bios password

Don't know if this question is in the right section.....

I have a problem with my bios,can't acces the #### thing,somehow there has been a adm.password installed,don't know how,i didn't do it ,the store who build my pc didn,t do it,so ???

I've tried it the easy way with a bios password recovery program, didn't work, tried all the "backdoor"passwords for a award bios, didn't work.So there's one thing left, removing the battery.
My question is,what happens if i remove it,do i lose al my bios settings,or can i,after reinstalling the battery, just start my pc and everything works, and only the password is gone.
Never did a upgrade/flash of my bios,so it has stil the original settings.

I've had this problem with another pc,bought it secondhand, but there the password recovery prog worked great,so no need to remove the battery.

I don't need to go into the bios settings yet,but there may be a day i wil,and when it's password protected,i have a problem.

So,whats going to happen after removing/installing the battery

:? :? :?

I believe all that will happen is 1. your password will be reset, and 2. your system clock will be reset. Ive never done this myself so im unsure of whether or not you will lose bios settings. I would guess that if it does not keep the setttings it will revert back to its default settings, which is fine if you havent messed with the bios anyways. If not, its not usually that hard to get your settings back. Good Luck.

You will only loose the BIOS settings, the PASSWORD should be reset, and your system Clock will be reset to default (you will have to reset it)

No harm no foul.

*Follow up*

Removed the battery,waited 1½ hours,installed a hd cooler while waiting,put battery back.

YES, the password is gone, only had to reset the clock, and some basic settings, just like lpdad said.

Thought it would be difficult, heard all those stories about bios settings gone wrong, lost bios settings, etc. but it was a piece of cake. And i can finaly enter my bios settings, thanks for the advice jabaman42 and LPDad

Glad it worked out for ya.

The horror stories about Bios' gone wrong usually occur when you are trying to update the bios with a new version and your power goes off before the updater has completed.

If you get interrupted during a Bios update...usually you end up with a non-working BIOS which will then need to be replaced.

...but that is another story for another time.

I remember my younger brother thinking he was all smart by putting a BIOS password on my PC just to make me mad. This was due to my parents having me put one on their computer to keep him off .. since his grades were bad.

Lovely family love eh? hehe..

I guess he didnt figure out how to reset it.. because the BIOS password stayed on their PC.. but I did pop my CMOS battery and worked like a beauty. Nothing wrong with doing that.

Keep in mind that occasionaly you actually have to replace that battery at one point if you use a motherboard for years. And if your clock keeps resetting every time you start your PC thats a good sign

That,s right, some MB's have them, you can also shorten a pair of jumpers to get the password deleted,i looked for them on my MB (asus A7V266) but saw 5 of them, didn't know wich one i needed, couldn't find my MB layout map,so i just took out the battery.

the quickest way to do this would be to locate the jumpers that allows you to reset your bios, change the jumper, wait a couple of seconds, put it back and on and you should be set...

Yeah - if you got a bios reset jumper -it is safer (less chance of breaking something, and less involved a process. The locaton of this jumper should be located in the owner's manual (or online documentation) for you specific motherboard - some motherboards do not have have this feature.

OR you can pop the battery out. It all works

some boards dont use a jumper for this, but instead you have to connect two solder points,

@wobbel, the jumper on your board is located just to the right of the battery and is labled 'CLR_RTC'

Yeah Wobbel, if you are like me you will need a nice big magnifying glass...and a flashlight. My eyes are just too bad for easily reading the itty-bitty printing on the circuit board.
