First, stupid question maybe, but did you put back the battery before switching on, or did you put it back wrong way round ?
(take a good look at the + - markings before installing) Second, try a new battery, maybe the one you have is dead, don't know how old your mobo is, but those batteries usually last a few years (3-5) |

Quote:
1. Do what Wobbel says FIRST. 2. move the Jumper on the "reset bios" header. That is to say, Put the battery back in, then move the resetBIOS jumper....wait 10 seconds, then move the jumper back. Manytimes the bios gets locked if you mess with the battery, and you need to reset it to default (via the jumper) before booting up. |

Bios battery
Hi people, happy new year, may I ask where the battery would be on a laptop, let my grandson play Barney on it and now it has a p***word, not sure if he is clever or I was stupid letting him use it

that would depend on the laptop, usually it can be found beneth the memory (accesable via a removable panel on the back) in this case it will be connected via a red and a black wire with a plug on the end.
other laptops may require you to dismantle them to get at the bios battery |

Found it, the above pdf secion 6.20 is the one you need. you may want to visit the pc tool shop though as the star key HP use is just that little bit smaller than you will find in your standard PC tool kit, for reference the one i have that fits has T - 7 stamped on the shaft |
