FSB mismatch.
I goofed. Ordering parts at 3AM has its hazards.
E6750 Conroe (1333 FSB) Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA (1066 FSB) Other parts: ATI X1950 AGP 2GB DDR400 500 W PSU Runs fine when it's on, no stability problems (though I'd guess I'm taking the performance hit from the lower FSB). Computer boots after having been turned off for long periods (how long exactly, I don't know, but a few hours works). The issue is: It won't reboot or boot after recent shutdown except on the third try. (haven't narrowed down the magic time when it will or won't boot on first attempt). Is this due to the Bus mismatch? If so, are there any clocking tricks that might resolve them? Am I likely to damage new parts due to this FSB combo? I had briefly overclocked the CPU (266 to 340) to see effects. Seems like I lost any first boot success and don't recall how many retries it took, but it was more than three I think (have to test this in more detail). This got me into thinking there might be a CPU clocking that will "match up", though I'm very low on tech knowledge. Much thanks in advance |
