DIY computer upgrade help !
My existing PC was brought through a friend’s friend of my wife, and apparently it’s a DIY unit. We had been experiencing slow processing speed recently as more software program had been installed due to study & work needs (even for start-up & shut-down). We must insert our thumb-drive (newly purchased) before start-up otherwise its will not be able to operate if it’s inserted when the PC is running (a high speed device had been detected, do you want to use it as a slow speed device?).
Since there wasn’t much information & we are also not an expert in PC. I had tried to attach photos taken from my PC hardware but failed. Therefore, I can only write all information saw on the board (best that I can provide). Hopefully someone can help us by advising whether our PC can be upgrade to a much faster system (maybe a Pentium)? Following are the information available; 1) Processor: Intel (M)© 02 Celeron ® 2.40GHz / 128 / 400 SL6W4 China 5406B077 9418A127 1145 2) Processor Base: Linkstar PGA478 3) HDD: Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8 40GB ATA / 133 4) Some information on Motherboard: AGP 8X DDR400 ATA133 FSB800 P4561 USB2.0 5.1CH ASROCK Thank you. |

I agree with Berks you really don't need to upgrade that machine. I would try and see if I could turn off anything that you don't need on startup. You can do this by clicking on Start, click run and in that dialog box type, msconfig. When you get on this screen you will want to look at the top of the screen and click startup. When you get on this page you will want to uncheck anything that you don't need running all the time. when you get done doing that juck click apply and ok. If will ask you to restart do so. Then I would use Adaware 6.0, Spysweeper and Spybot search and destroy. After you run these programs your computer should speed up a lot.
If all else does not work then wipe the system and reinstall the operating system. Doing all this will save you a lot of money on an upgrade and or a new system. |
