XP Behind the Scenes during Startup
Find Out What's going on "Behind the Scenes" During Startup
When Windows XP starts up, you only see the Windows XP startup screen. Want to see more of what's going on during startup? Try this: 1. Right click the My Computer object on the desktop and click Properties. 2. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab. Click on the Settings button in the Startup and Recovery frame. 3. On the Startup and Recovery dialog box, click on the Edit button. 4. In Notepad, click the Format menu and click the Word wrap entry. You do NOT want Word wrap enabled and there should be no checkmark to the left of this entry after you click on the Word wrap command. After the /fastdetect entry in the boot.i n i file, type /SOS so that it looks something like this: [boot loader] timeout=30 default=muti(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS[operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /SOS 5. Save the file and close Notepad. Click OK in the Startup and Recovery dialog box and click OK in the System Properties dialog box. 6. Restart your computer. Cool! This disables the startup logo screen ("splash screen") and allows you to see system messages as drivers load. =============== Now I'll go do this on mine

And another way to do this:
1) Click Start = Click the Run command = Type MSCONFIG in the Open text box = Click OK. 2) In the System Configuration Utility dialog box = Click on the BOOT.I N I tab = Put a checkmark in the /SOS checkbox = Click Apply = Click OK. A System Configuration dialog box will ask if you want to restart the computer. You can choose either to restart now or later.
