If you want security, Outlook isn't the one to choose. Worms like i love u and melissa were spread because of word and outlooks' low security and tight integration. I may be a little biased but Eudora beats Outlook hands down everytime. There's a new version that should be out shortly also.

I use Eudora at work and I also replaced Outlook Express to some customers by Eudora (I had to delete the folder of OE, MS decided that you shouldn't be able to uninstall it ). If you use the Eudora mail viewer you won't ever have a problem with email virus (unless you manually open an attachment with virus, of course).

No matter which antivirus you have installed, with OE, virus have the doors wide open.

So I finally got Eudora set up and configured to my liking. I didn't know that Norton Antivirus, while not being the best of the breed (still a personal pick), has the ability to scan mail comming from both directions (I set to in only). I also found out that ZoneAlarm Pro will check the attachment for anything malicious and quarantine if neccessary. I have Earthlink for an ISP and their Spam Blocker is supposed to work fantastic. I haven't gotten a spam in over two weeks (compared to my 30 a day). If spam starts to get nasty, I'll install a client based spam filter and also use custom filters to fit my needs. Eudora is definately the way to go.

The Bat is greatest to me, although I use Becky Internet Mail - it's pretty similar to TheBat. Try it and if you like it just use it- and I think there were plugins for Hotmail(to work as pop3 and download messages for offline reading).

I might have gone with the The Bat!, but it didn't seem as main stream as Eudora is. This does not mean that Eudora is better. All it means is that it probably has more users/support more with different programs. For instance, ZoneAlarm Pro verifies any attachments with Eudora, but The Bat! is not on its list of programs that it is compatible with etc etc etc....
