process issue?

OK this one has floored me. i dont get it.

I had an electrical storm today and shut down my computer and unplugged it. nothing unusual. BUT, when I rebooted for some reason all of my processes are now eating up 10 times the memory and when i try to run a game, it refuses to start up stating that it requires 4.5 billion bits of memory.

Anyone ever heard this before? I even tried rolling back a few days and it still says no. I don't get it. PLEASE help!
