PC Randomly restarting - Page 2

ok i did the memory test using the program you provided. I kept it running for like an hour and every test failed. the test was taking ages and i had to quit as other ppl needed to use the machine

however i got the results from the memtest and it came up with around 12,000 errors

ok regarding the problem, i have found a pattern. It only occurs when playing farcry. and when running photoshop, illustrator and other graphic packages at once. ok another thing is when playing farcry the game just exits and goes to the windows desktop and i get a critical error saying "memory could not be read".

Yes i do have XP server Pck 1 and all critical windows updates are up to date and i definitly have the latest video drivers. As far as i know i dont overclock my machine. i would be grateful however i f u could give me any points on what to look out for which will tell me that my machine is being overclocked.

"do you use aggressive memory timings?" well regarding that i dont have a clue lol, sadly im not up to that level of knowledge and dont know what u mean?

I guess that you mean that all memory tests were successful, which means that no test failed so memory is good. The program runs continously, so if you don't stop it, it will keep doing the same tests over and over.

Memtest often gives false positives. I wouldn't trust this program alone.

You should take a look at the event viewer, there should be some trace of the errors there. Also post your specs: motherboard, processor, memory... If you don't know how to get this information you can use CPU-Z.

ok i think i found out what the problem was. Firstly ive got 1 gig ram, which is 2 dims of 512 drram.

Apparently after the memtest results, i found that the ram placed in dim 1 had 577 errors. however in the second dim no errors were found. just to make sure i took out the ram in the first dim and ran the memtest once again and guesss what ALL TESTS SUCEEDED.

i have not replaced the bad ram in and the machine is stabily running with 512 drram. This also seems to have corrected the problem with farcry but not to get too excited, i am gonna see if no crashes happen for a further month or so.

But hey guys if it wasnt for any of u i would never have got to this point. and for that i thank you lot so much and shall recommend everyone to this bad ass wicked forum.

I misunderstood what you said. If any of the tests fail, then memory is bad, but you already know this. So just ask for a replacement DIMM
