High and Low Density

I am ready to buy a PC100 ram memory to boost my desktop speed but I am at a loss as to the difference between High Density and Low density. Somebody help me make a good choice. Also what is the meaning of 64x4....32x32 etc...with regards to memory.

High Density would be the 64 X 4. Means you will have less chips on the memory sticks.

Low density would be 32 X 32.. meaning you will have more chips on the actualy memory sticks.

Its not going to really affect the memory performance a lot, but you can go high density to be on the high side of it.

PC 100 is pretty dated now considering how fast memory has progressed.. but if you check www.pricewatch.com you can probably find some really inexpensive through that site?

Also try looking at http://www.crucial.com they hav a very nifty little search so you can find the exact memory supported by your board

And Crucial are excellent for memory!

Wait, you may not be able to use high density sticks, because some older chipsets are not able to map all the memory on those chips. It is usually safer for older computers to use lower density chips; but in any case read the manual of your motherboard, it will tell you if you can use 256 MB single sided 8 chips (high density) or you must use 256 MB double sided 16 chips (low density).
