Hi. Im new here and going to build my first system and i would like to know if i hadan intel p4 2.6 with ddr 400 memory would that give me a bottleneck

that should not be a bottleneck...a lot of it depends to a large extent on your motherboard.
My motherboard uses DUAL CHANNEL so if I have the same memory in both slots I get better speeds than if I used double the memory in a single slot.
