Unhappy Memory problem

I desided to upgrade my pc's memory.I have 2*512 DDR SDRAM PC2700 and desided to add 256MB.The problem is that my mobo has 3 memory slots and the third one won't recognise the memory I want to add.I tried it with one of my installed memory and the same thing is happenning,it will not recognise it.Any suggestions?

sounds very much like a bad memory slot to me, if the board is still under warrenty contact your supplyer, if not an e-mail to the manufacturers of the board may have a possitive result.

had you tried putting in the smalest memory into slot 0 then follow with the larger in slot1 and slot2 ?

Sometimes this works, to get the memory nudged in, because it graduates the memory in the slots, anbd takes the smallest as the mast then opens the machine up for the larger chips.

make sure you are using all the same memory for example all PC133 or PC2700 you cannot mix different memory chips like that. Also are they all the same brand of memory sometimes this can cause problems also.
