Running two kinds of memory....

I have an XP2600 (333 FSB) on an MSI KT4V Mobo. The board runs PC2100, PC2700 and PC3200, in three different slots.

1) Would there be any adverse effects running PC2700 and PC3200 together. They would be running @ 333Mhz of course.

2) Can the chip really benefit from running the DDR400 @ 400Mhz? Every benchmark I've seen show a slight decrease in performance when doing so.

jrwap is on a distinguished road
Although I have never tired running two types of RAM, I think you should be fine. Keep in mind that the faster RAM will run at the same rate as the slowest RAM in the memory bank.

There are so many factors that can affect a systems performance where memory is concerned. Not all mobos and RAM are created equal. One mobo may run faster with 400mhz DDR RAM while another may not. I don't think you will see a noticable difference.

Why not do some testing on your own? Use a single DIMM and run some of Sandra's tests and then do a swap. Then try it with all your RAM installed together. This will be the only true way to see what works best for you system.

Thanks. I'll experiment a bit and see what happens.
