Adding to a HP Pavilion a320n, AMD Athlon XP, 2800+

HP Pavilion a320n, AMD Athlon XP, 2800+, 2.08GHz., 512MB of RAM

This computer is begining to run a little slow so I would like to add another 512MB of RAM.

What type of RAM do I need?

Is the existing RAM in one stick or two?

Thanks for you help.

You 1st have to find out if your Motherboard can take another stick.
If it is store bought, you can look up the info at Crucial.

Look up HP Pavilion a320n

I looked also...I have never seen one not listed before....
You might have to call HP on this one.

I think the answer is here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...cname=c00039102

RAM (installed) 512 MB 2700 DDR (2 x 256 MB) up to 64 MB shared video memory

Maximum allowed 1 GB (2 x 512 MB)

Type 184 pin, DDR SDRAM

DIMM slots Two

Open slots None available

To expand to 1 MB I guess I would have to buy two 512 MB DDR sticks.

Would you anticipate any problems doing this?

Well, the specs say that you can upgrade...so you have 2 choices....
Keep 1 of the 256 & add 1 512 for 768 to save some money or
replace both 256 for 2 512 to get your 1GB.
From all that I have read, there is not a big difference between 512 & 1GB...so I would go for the 1GB myself.
My HP 531w is maxed out with only 512..wish I could add anothr stick...it will only take up to 2x256.

Thanks, I'll check prices of 2 x 512 MB. Incidentally, I'm in Canada....... not as easy to find a bargain here as in the USA.

Usually with Crucial...for 1st time Buyers, you will get a 20% discount...but you won't know till you actually buy the item...it will tell you just before you finish the order. I got my stick for like & $15 instead of $35...now it's $70.
