Windows has really come a long way from where it first began. Windows XP is the most stable operating system from Microsoft to date! and on top of that, it's easy to use. how could it get any better?!?!
i recommend that you read that article about longhorn...it has some very interesting topics of discussion. |

Windows, it does not assume that I know nothing... just as Linux assumes I know something...
Currently I run windows with a windowsblinds skin that makes it look and act like a mac just for gits and shiggles... I run a linux emulator (cygwin) for my linux needs

MAC compared to Windows.?????? ROFL, LOL.
You cannot compare these dudes. MAC is a computer architecture like PC is. MACos is the operating system for Macs. And Windows, Linux, etc are OSes for PC. Try to compare something comparable, like elephant VS ant???ROFL. |

In the comparisation PC vs Mac or something else I would definately not choose for the PC. A Mac has another processor architecture, making it more smooth (not at one to 100% usage like Intels do). The same hold for Sparc's from Sun. They are a lot faster for arithmatic things, if you need power while computing special effects or are just compiling a bunch of code...

MAC = RISC
PC = CISC 2 different types of processors design

abou105 - this is another incorrect comparison my friend. Two different architectures that run different OSes. This will never be comparable. Try comparing *NIX OSes and Win OSes. Try comparing computer architectures, try comparing videocards. But this is the second level down (PC Vs. Mac->WinXP Vs. MacOS). If you know what inheritance is then you will sure understand me. Compare base structures, but never the inheritors.

You could argue all day long about which one is better. Just keep in mind that every person has preference to what they will use and what they wont use.
So my opinion.. because its my preference is windows.

Somehow this is a stange poll, because you first have to use both systems in the same way doing the same things in order to compare them a little...
People who haven't used both systems should simply not be able to vote, resulting in only a few being allowed to vote I think.

I have used both mac - and windows.
I hate windows because it takes a pc and turns it into a mac. If only microsoft had continued support / upgrades / revisions for DOS... But, because I prefer PC architecture, ad I don't feel like writing all of my own software windows XP it is. (with a secret dream that all longhorn administration will take place from the command line...)

From a programmer's point of view i read that the PC(win xp) is easier to program, hence more applications for windows than for mac os.
due to RISC(reduced instruction set) which is faster than CISC(complex instructions) due to reduced instructions, but will make life more difficult for a programmers. Also you can't compare MAC os with windows without comparing the architucture. From the market point of view Windows is better,

Amiga Workbench was a great OS, guess only a very few people use it these days, but I prefer it over windows MENTXP2K9xCE.net. Programming seems to be easier for windows because there are more programs for ?!?! what a xxxxxxxx It sounds to me like you (tamarisk) think porches driver slower because you don't see them as much as mercedes's or something... I don't see the relation in that. Since when do a programmer have to deal with an instructionset? Welcome to 2003 where 5th generation languages are a fact (not that they are useful but still). Noone writes assembler these days, not while programming a PC, Mac or Sun. It is C, C++ Objective C, Java, Native Java and it compiles with GCC... It is a fact dat Microsoft was better in it's marketing and business to get a PC into your life shipped with a version of Windows. And I will agree that from that point Windows does best, but that doesn't say anything about the quality of the product. I would like to end this kind of rage with a friendly word saying 'Ok guys, I just wanted to point out that I think this poll doesn't make any sense...' I don't care what you prefer, as long as we are allowed to use what we prefer, I'm fine.
