People & computers
Last week my (one of mine) brother was here, we don't see each other that much.
He saw my pc, asked what i did with it, showed him some music, photo's, software i use, forums i visit, etc. He told me he had a pc, but it was acting funny lately, couldn't get it to start up most of the times, when it did start, couldn't connect to the i-net, got a 'cannot find server' message, and when it was up & running it would shut down after a few minutes. He asked what it could be, first thought was a virus, or a pc loaded with spy/adware (he's got 3 kids, who click every 'ok') So i went over to him later that week, his pc was a intel PII 350 or so MHz, tried the start button, lights came up for a sec, nothing, tried several times, no results. The stupid thing wouldn't even start, so i took everything of, looked at the little switch behind the start button, looked ok, but still wouldn't start, so, pulled out the 2 wires, connected them directly, switched on power, nothing. Conclusion, his psu was waisted, maybe mobo & memory gone as well. Didn't have anything with me, so i couldn't measure the voltage output, but it seemed clear to me. Advised him to buy a new pc, because replacing everything wouldn't be an option in my opinion. Asked him what he payed for it, he bought it a year ago for €300 ($387) !! So, screwed big time.... Last night, got a call from him, if i wanted to go with him, buying a new pc, asked him how much he wanted to spend on it, said €1000 ($1290), but he didn't know if that would be enough to get a decent pc, lol, think we'll find something for that money.... |
