So what's your favorite flavor of Linux?
I tried Red Hat 7.0 but I didn't like it and there were security updates like crazy and it just became too much of a hassle for me. Especially being a newbie with any type of unix/linux systems. Not too long ago I tried Mandrake 8.0 and I know alot of people say that there are security issues with Mandrake but I must say it is about the best for a newbie. It was easy to install and you could actually find your way around a little better. One of these days I am going to get back into it, but I have too much going on right now.

I always thought about trying Suse but never got around to it. I think when I build the new server I am going to take the time to get it set up with one of the Linux distros, I may like windows but I will be the first to admit that Linux woops the pants off of windows when it's used for webserving applications.

I'm hoping to build the new server before long, and when I do I will have the time available to get Linux setup on it and get everything configured the right way before I put it online. I still haven't decided if the new server will totally replace the old one or if I will use it as the database server and keep the present webserver for running apache and the mail server only. I guess I have a good bit of time to think about it

For the short time I used Linux I think I must say I enjoyed Mandrake the best. I tried suse and a few others, but Mandrake was very easy to install, and very user friendly. Only bad part is it really didn't have a picture of the cute little pengiun. My girlfriend always adored those types of things. I'm a guy and I do too!! Call me wierd if you like, I just wish they would put the pengiun up there!!!

Hey guys I finally got Mandrake 8.1 going up here and I must say it is a heck of alot better than version 7. The setup is simple, the interface is almost like windows and well it's great. I'd defenantly say instead of downloading it just go out to the store and pick it up. You can find it for about 20 or 30 bucks and it is alot easier... Well just thought I would she the good news. :p

Yeah I know what you mean.
For every .1 they must make about 100 changes to the OS. 7.1 for mandrake was ok, but with 8.1 all my drivers got auto installed. I was amazed that it did that, and the networking was a bit more simple. I am suprised that they made it so simple this time around. Well I would recommend to anyone to get Mandrake. :smilewink

Well out of everything I have seen regarding linux.. I agree that Mandrake is probbaly the most "user" friendly.
But recently.. one of my good friends installed OpenBSD and is running a web server from it. I know it may not be exactly teh same thing.. but it is definately very secure and it seems to do an awesome job for everything he needs. Personally.. I have seen Debian, Red Hat, and Mandrake in action. As much as I like the ease of Mandrake.. I still am a sucker for using Red Hat.

I recentely installed RH 8.0 and I though it was pretty straightfoward. Click Click Read Click ... you know typical "windows" installation.
Downloading now 9.0 distros. If it weren't for games and p2p I guess I would be writing this from a Linux OS...
