Have you opened up your mixer and played with the knobs there?

Have you tried and checked with the settings of skype that it is monitoring the correct device?

esound must know it has to use alsa. Is your desktop using alsa also? or still oss?

My desktop uses alsa.
And the most strange is that there it worked fine, but when I played with the mixer it stoped working !!!! And I thing that somethink blocks the access of the skype program to the sound server, because on some point it even stops ringing !!!

I am going to remove all the alsa libs utilities mixer and so on and the esound too and will install the newest alsa !

Meanwhile if some one has some other ideas please let me know!

Well you can try reinstalling the packages, but I doubt it will work. Are you sure no other application claims/uses the sound card? Have you tried all sliders and buttons of the mixer? In case you have multiple mixers (like the amixer terminal tool) have you tried a few of them to see if you get different sliders?

Yes I did. But nothing worked and I'll upgrade the glibc and the alsa driver and the worst if it dont work is that I'll have to use skype only under windows
I'll write here what have happened after I finish with the upgrade.

Nothing worked with the upgrade, after I upgraded to alsa 1.0.7 the alsaconf didn't even find my soundcard
And after that I reinstaled the old alsa 1.0.5 and everything is back to normal (everything but the skype)!
I have no more ideas! So it seams that I'll have to use it only under windows - I don't want to change my distro.

well... changing distro sounds a bit extreme to me.

I assume you are just upgrading alsa utils, as the audiocard is detected by the kernel during boot (see dmesg | less). It's weird that those utils don't happen to find the sound card anymore in a newer version. Does it require a newer kernel perhaps?

Here is what happened:

First I made full upgrade of the available packetd, kernel, kernel modules and so on. Everything worked fine the new alsa 1.0.8 too! The problem with it was coming from this that it was compiled for kernel 2.4.29 and my old kernel was 2.4.26.

The skype program worked fine, it is not crushing anymore, rings , instant messaging works fine, BUT just in the moment in which the accept button for incoming call is pressed and the sound server halts!!!!

The next thing I did was to remove all alsa packages,
modprobe maestro (my soundcard is maestro something) and after that configured all to work with artsdsp, start skype with "artsdsp -m /usr/bin/skype" and now everything is working !

On my desktop everything is working with alsa but it's OK and with artsdsp !

Cheers !
Thank you for the attention and your help Greffov!
Cheers one again
