Yes you want to go to a terminal and change the directory to where decompressed the files. Once you are in that folder follow the steps I previously listed. As for KDE they do have a program that will build and install KDE for you, it is called "konstruct". You may want to use google and read up on it further.

making head roads now with the installation...still got a few blocks to deal with.
