mouse problem
I've reciently taken the plunge and installed mandrake 10 (yes, i know - but it was easy to install
problem is, when i boot up with a usb device plugged in (in this case a memory card reader) the mouse (ps2) doesnt respond at all and i have to shut the system down, unplug the usb and restart. anyone any idea's on how i can solve this? i was hopng to take this pc into work to use there - having got heartily sick of windows 95 on a 200 mhz pc, my router is 200 mhz ffs!. unfortunatly this usb problem renders the pc useless as a work machine, as it needs to be accessed by total computer newbies

what does /var/log/messages say when you insert the USB device? Does the problem occur as well if you plug the USB device after boot?

how can X start if it doesn't find a 'pointing' device :? Don't you have by chance an USB mouse floating around there?

no, im thinking along the lines of some sort of confusion between the usb hub and a usb mouse - making the system think it has a usb mose instead of a ps2, so you get the pointer but no control.

check /var/log/messages for the USB devices it finds during boot, or /proc/bus/usb/devices after boot to see what the kernel thinks it has attached...
