Question Best version of Linux?

I've been wanting to swtich to Linux for a while now. I wanted to wait until I made an image of Windows, which is just around the corner. I've done a little bit of reading and have decided between Redhat (now Fedora apparently), SuSe, and Mandrake. I've used Linux for about 5 total minutes so I don't really have much experience with it. The only thing that I can claim to my name is I have logged onto a linux server to use VI to code some C programs.

So, which version of Linux would you recommend for a beginner Linux user (out of the three)? I don't really feel like installing each and using them for several weeks (seems like too much work for me ). I'm pretty sure that I could learn Linux quickly enough. I plan on dual booting with W2kPro.

Go with SuSe or Fedora then. I personally have tried each one of these and Madrake was the only I couldn't fit to - just couldn't do a single thing by myself. SuSe is full of goodies - I loved it. And Fedora of course is worldwide spread and probably the support (Google search for help) will be better. Nothing speacial - whichever you choose will suit you. They are all easy and you will adapt to them fast. The only thing I can say is "Good Luck"

I'd recommend Red Hat if you're just starting out. It's the most beginner-friendly distro out there...

Once you're used to everything, might I recommend a step up and trying the OpenBSD or FreeBSD kernels?

Wow, why on earth did this two year old thread get resurrected?

Anywho, I'll change my recommendation to Kubuntu. But that's because I like KDE...
