Hi there I have evolved and moved over to Mandrake 10
Its great, runs nicely apart from one slight problem. My nVidia drivers for my GeForcefx 5600 have installed themselves incorrectly. From the research I have done so far I have discovered my problem to be in the XF86Config-4 file (located etc/X11/XF86Config-4) where two errors have been made:1. the value load "glx" has been hashed out i.e. it is this: # load "glx" rather than this: load "glx" 2. the value: Driver "nv" should be changed to: Driver "nvidia" Ok you may say, you sound like you know what your doing...lol... wrong. Everytime i change these values to what they should be, I reboot and the original values have returned :S I have tryed changing it logged in as root in a root terminal but to no avail. Is there something Im missing? Should I be doing this some special way? I usually use the midnight commander terminal and the built in text editor to edit this file....so where am I going wrong. Please advise me i am a n00b at the whole linux thing ![]() Cheers, K-C

which file exactly are you editing?
What nvidia stuff did you install? Some prepackaged Mandrake thing, or the official Nvidia driver which attempts to compile some stuff for your kernel? If you edit the changes, it should be sufficient to log out and press Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to restart X, if I'm not wrong.

As i said above im trying to edit the XF86Config file, apparently i need to edit it to fix this problem I have when trying to play a game such as TuxRacer.
The error is a problem with loading glx when the game starts and this is due to the "#" just before "load glx". Also it said to change the "nv" to "nvidia" so that needs to be done. Im using the nVidia's set of drivers downloaded from their website. Its just everytime i edit the config file it does seem to "save" it so when i go back to it within the same session its still there, but as soon as i reboot is just resets the file. =/ Is there some other file i should be editing to stop this from happening? Cheers.

That resetting of the XFreeConfig file can be some protection because the nvidia drivers don't work. However, then I gots trouble with my nvidia drivers, my X just tries 5 times and drops me on a plain old prompt, and does not overwrite the config file.
Actually, you should have googled like me: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=163398 cheers!
