overclocking FAQ

Hi everyone,

This may sound like a stupid question but overclocking is a new concept for me.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a good o/c FAQ or article geared towards newbies? I'm jsut looking for somewhere to start gathering info.

Intel locks there multipliers. Such terrible monkey biters.

yeah, I found that out after doing some reading. That's why I chose an AMD for my next system.

Actually, AMD locks their multipliers also. Fortunately, its not overly hard to unlock them. You can have pretty good results without unlocking the multiplier.

I haven't done it yet, and I have my 1.4Ghz xp1600+ running at 1.6Ghz .... thats completely stable with a fsb of 150mhz. If I had better RAM, I could easily go higher. Be sure to choose a good motherboard and RAM and you will have great results.

Also, there is a great article on this site that shows how to unlock the new XP processor.

Yeah, the article on how to do it here is the best I have seen. I'm not going to be doing it to mine soon, but later on I will if AMD finds a way to cool there processors down because of all the heat they make I don't feel like raising it up anymore that it is already. I just don't like Intel really. There celerons overclock great but those Pentiums III's and some of the Pentium 4's really don't like it. Changing the FSB with RDRAM is hard too, so there are alot of bad decision they have made. Too bad they don't realize it. I wish they would sell themselves to AMD already, not like it won't happen in the next 1 or 2 years.
