Question Laptop / CPU question

I have a Toshiba Satalite laptop with a P3 running at 750g. Does anyone know if it's possible to change the CPU in a laptop? I really want to go with a faster CPU but don't know if it's possible to do.

If if is possible, any links to find out exactly how to do it would be great.

Thanks.

My father actually just receieved a brand new P4 Toshiba laptop yesterday.

The thing with laptops is.. you normally have to go back to the person you got it from to upgrade anything in it. Therefore you might have to call Toshiba and find out if its possible.. unless you have the original booklet it came with?

Ify ou can tell us what motherboard is running in there we can help you figure it out before you call them to upgrade it

As Cirga recommends, you better ask Toshiba, and go to an authorized technical service.

Anyway the fastest P3 is 1,2 GHz, but not all mobos would work with this one, so the safe update would be 1000 MHz. This won't improve much (750 MHz to 1000MHz), I wouldn't spend the cost of this upgrade... Maybe a memory upgrade is worth, instead.

I agree on the memory upgrade.. Unless you are making a drastic move on CPU power there really is no point in upgrading it.

Such as P3 to a P4 would be something worthwhile.. but not just putting another chip in.

As an example.. I just purchased an XP2500 processor. equilvalent to about a 1.8Ghz Pentium. This will be an upgrade from my old P3 850 Processor. I spent 100 dollars on the XP2500 chip. If I had just bought a faster P3 (900Mhz) it would have cost me 90 dollars. Really not worth it if I could get something much better for 10 dollars more.

Kind of make sense?

I have a PII 400MHz Tosh and I emailed them to see if upgrades were possible. The reply was 'Please be advised that the CPU's on Toshiba laptops are non upgradeable'.
