Non System Disk
Its been a while and I dont exactly recall how this ended up happening. Anyhow I replaced my harddrive for a bigger model and in the process reinstalled Win XP fresh. Anyhow...the problem is that I must have both my primary and secondary hard drives plugged in for the system to work. If I just have the primary plugged in I get the Non system disk error during boot up. From what I have read the MBR is on the second drive and the OS is on the primary drive??? How can I fix this?
Thank you |

Do you still have windows on the other drive or did you format..??
Also, are you sure that Windows is installed on the Primary Drive..?? I had a similar problem before..just unplugging the Main Drive & plugging it back in fixed it...same thing in the Ribbon gets loose & I need to replace it...whenever I mess with any of my 4 drives..if I wiggle that cord..I get the same error as you. |

The other drive is empty... They are SATA drives and I know they are firmly locked in. I have to give boot priority to the secondary drive else it gives me the error. The OS is on the primary drive. The secondary drive used to be the primary drive. The thing that always messed me up is that my secondary drive was always lower in alphabet than primary drive as far as drive designations.

I'm not used to SATA..but they use just 1 ribbon..not a joined one right...is the right one plugged into the motherboard...??
Try switch the 2 around..I know with mine I have to have the IDE plugged into the Red one. You can change the Drive Letters in Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Disk Management...right click on the drive you want to change & you will see Changed Drive Letter..you might have to to your other drive first..name it Z or something...change the drive you want than change Z to a new letter. |
