24 partitions-Maxtor Utilities when attempting to set up a new drive

I have had this problem on both a 60 GB & 160 GB Maxtor HD.
When booting up my PC with a Maxtor HD Utility floppy to partition the drive, I get to the screen where I indicate how many partitions I want and it already shows that the HD has 24 partitions. I am unable to move beyond this screen.
I suspect that the mbr is corrupt.
If so, where can I get a clean mbr.
