Help with moving large files to extrenal HD

Well i have this problem, i bought a extrenal HD today and i can't move over 4GB files to it, because if i try windows starts complaining about having not enough space, though the HD is almost empty. i want to ask if somebody knows a way to byp*** that msg.

here are the HD's specs:
USB 2.0
rotational speed: 7200 rpm
seek time: <11ms
buffer size: 8mb

any help is aprichiated...

Send a message via ICQ to technobeast Send a message via AIM to technobeast Send a message via Yahoo to technobeast
It's FAT32 preformatted I guess. You have to got to Control Panel ->Administrative Tools->Disk Management somewhere there. Delete the partition you have on the USB drive (Fat32 again I guess). And then create a new primary NTFS partition on it. Format it and that should solve your problem

true the file sytem type is FAT32.

but is there a way to convert that exsisting partition, since moving files back and forth between inner HD and extrenal one consumes a bit time (since with almost empty i meant 58gb's roughly from the max of 250gb)

I would move your 58 gigs back and then format the HD and then move stuff back over. Once you format things should move a little faster but you are moving to an external HD so things will be slower then an internal drive.

Yup.... in a command prompt 'convert volumename /FS:NTFS' works for HDDs. But I wouldn't recommend it for USB drives. May not always work. That's why I didn't even recommended the simple Format drive, but instead brought you to Administrative tools.
