Exclamation Multiple Hard Disk Failures

I have a machine that I recently had a hard disk failure on. I replaced the hard disk and within 2 weeks had a second hard disk failure. Could I possibly need to replace my power supply? Any suggestions would be helpful...

Thanks

What kind of faliure those drives suffered? What PSU do you have? A faulty PSU can lead to this problem, but I've had new drives dying after one or two days (faulty drive).

Do you have any multimeter (volt meter included) and can you measure the 12V line of the PSU (do not trust the integrated sensors and meters)? Is it getting anywhere near 13 or more?

i too would like to know the nature of the failure, as i've reciently had a simmilar problem with one of my machines.

were the hard drives that failed both connected to the same IDE channel on the motherboard? if the replacement failed im guessing yes. if this is the case you need to look for some software to test the operation of the IDE controler on your motherboard, as i suspect it, like mine - is on its way out.

P.S. after setting up a new partition and formating in another PC my drives were fine

check the smart logs to see if it complains about bad and unreadable sectors, like:

May 1 03:17:11 hermes smartd[15263]: Device: /dev/hda, 2 Currently unreadable (
pending) sectors

depending on the company you may be able to get a new hard drive for free but that won't help you if you lost all your data.
