Missing NTLDR

Im still working on trying to get the bugs out of this pc, and I have an old 8 gig fujitsu, that was given to me a while ago, and worked great as a second drive. I went to install it as my main drive to check it out a bit more, as I plan to install my spare OS on it for a back up. I set the jumpers up no problem, but the message I got was missing NTLDR. Now heres the wierd part, the computer boots fine from the 40 gig fireball Im now using. Im wondering if the firmware for the drive may have been buggered up by the previous owner of the drive. If thats the case, how do I get it back up and running?

Boot up with your Win (I suppose it's XP) CD in the drive and go to the Recovery Console. At the command prompt type "bootcfg /rebuild"

That should do it

The only problem is that it stops, and all I can do is either reboot, or power down. This drive was formatted before I attempted to install it as my main drive. Im wondering if Im going to have to download a file from fujitsu, and make a floppy. IE filling the thing with zeros, and starting from scratch? I havnt had to do that for a long time.

Increase partition size

I used a boot CD the last time i had this problem and it corrected the problem let me see if i can find the article i read about it!

No CDs or Disk the drives? Did it just start happening out of no where, or did it happen during a WindowsNT/2k/XP installation? You could always boot off the WindowsXP CD or a disk and copy the NTLDR file from there. Go into the recovery console and use these commands.
copy d:\i386\ntldr c:
copy ntdetect.com c:

Im wondering how I can get into the recovery console when its a newly formatted drive, and wont do a bloody thing. Im totally new with this kind of problem, and when Im trying to get it to install, I dont have another pc to get help on.

Can you boot from a Win98 system disc (floppy)? If you can try "sys c:" (again if C: is accessible)

You get to the recovery console by booting off your install CD. Place the CD in the drive restart your system, go into bios and make sure your first boot device is CD-ROM Parway into the install it will ask if you want to Install a fresh copy, or Repair. Choose Repair and then choose Recovery Console.

Should do it for you.

Yes, getting to the recovery console and issuing the correct commands could certainly fix your problem.
