Toshiba 5005-s504 XP ACCESS

Because my 1 and a half year old bad investment is dying I am trying to find out what to do about saving my information on my hard drive. I was told to purchase a external drive (and did) and take the drive out of the computer and attach it to my new notebook. From there I would be able to access all of my files. I know that I could use the startup CD but that could only work if the cd drive was operative. I have tried to access it through DOS but of course run into the XP access denied. PLEASE HELP ME!

Can you explain what exactly happened? You bought a new hard drive or you have a new laptop. And access to XP is probably denied because of the NTFS file system. Hmm I think there was a proggy for NTFS access under DOS. If I try to find this will it be useful to you? Do you want to just copy the info from the hard drive?

Heeey I was fast. And no wonder why I remembered this - SysInternals NTFSDOS. Is this OK?
If not I'll be waiting for further info from you.
