Worried about my harddrive...
I just got partition magic 8.0 cuz i wanted to install linux in a partition, when I select resize/move partition (i only got one big partition witch is fat32 and has WinXP Pro on it) and the resize window opens, but it also tells me 'this partition crosses the 1024 cylinder boundry and may not be bootable.
Screenshot: Although the partition is bootable, im just wondering if it's something wrong with it.

The 1024 cylinder boundary is a constraint invoked by the BIOS. No OS can be booted from a partition that intrudes into the space beyond that limit...unless the system has INT 13 extensions incorporated into the BIOS. (Most newer systems do.) In other words the boot files have to be within that 1024 limit boundary.
If the BIOS does have the INT 13 extensions incorporated, it may be possible to enable an OS to boot from space that is beyond the 1024 limit if the OS is capable of utilizing space outside of that limit........Whew, sounds complicated, huh! *L*... The 1024 cylinder boundary refers to the first 8Gigs. Therefore, you need to think things out and plan your partition sizes if you opt to set up a dual-boot system. Basically, what Partition Magic is telling you is that it might not be possible to boot the OS because it does cross the 1024 limit boundary. If the OS does boot, then you should be ok...... ![]() Hope this helps.....
