Well, I do not know if it was a typo or not but you should be typing:
http//192.168.1.1 When I got my router (same as yours--works like a charm, by the way--you will be very happy with it once you get it set up properly) I had the same problem with bringing up the login screen. I do not remember exactly what was causing the problem but for now try the following: connect everything together (modem->router->computer)properly Turn EVERYTHING OFF. 1. boot modem. wait till it is on and blinking happily 2. boot router. wait till it is on and blinking happily 3. boot 'puter. let it get good and happy. make sure you have done the following: in your internet options -> connections tab--set it to never dial a connection (stop your modem from trying to dial out when you start explorer) , and below that you want to set the LocalAreaNetwork LAN settings to automatically detect settings. TURN OFF or DISABLE ALL FIREWALLS/ SECURITY PROGRAMS/TWEAKING PROGRAMS--Basically turn off ALL programs you normally have running in the backround (you want to turn off zonealarm, Any norton Programs, everything, and do not forget the built in firewall in xp (IF you are using XP) After you get the router working properly the first time then you can turn everything back on one by one-- just to see what program is interfering. Chances everything will work fine after you get the router set up. start Internet Explorer. After you get the "i cannot find squat cause there is no access to the internet" message then enter your router address: http//192.168.1.1 This should NOW bring up a login dialog box asking for your User/password. Initially leave the User part blank and enter admin in the password area and then hit ENTER. This should NOW bring up the BEAUTIFUL router control panel--AT THIS POINT DO THE FOLLOWING: Click on the word FAVORITES at the top of your browser window, choose the option "ADD TO FAVORITES" then put the following in the name section of the window that pops up: Linksys router -- http//192.168.1.1 then click OK. Save, whatever. (from now on whenever you need to access the router just click on the nice new link you just made in your favorites menu) Next Enter all of the appropriate settings in each section of your router setup panel. and save everything. Note: Tweak XP has a couple of settings that might/might not cause problems connecting to other computers that you have connected to the router. If you have this problem let me know and I will tell you what to do. Hope this helps.

Not sure if this is the case.. but sometimes when you are attempting to connect to a router you need to access it via a certain port...
such as 192.168.1.1:5080 etc. But if that is the case it woudl show it in the manual you have which tells you to configure it... Just a thought.

Hiya Smiley_Bits
![]() What's the OS you're using here? I know in the past when this has happened to me I've done three things to get it back. Reset my modem (cable) Hard reset my router (there should be a reset button on the front that you can press with a paperclip or something) and released and renewed my adapter's address (make sure that your adapter is set to obtain an IP address automatically) Keep us posted on what happens ![]() ~Peace DC

If you are using Windows NT, 2000, XP...sometime the router doesn't see the cable modem because of the DHCP needs to be reset...
1. Just click start button the click run 2 Then type in the dialog cmd 3. A command window should open 4. Type this ipconfig /release, wait a few sec for it to clear out your ip address 5. Type this ipconfig /renew, this is get a new ip address from your router Hope that helps... |

oops, it just dawned on me that you probably do not have a Linksys model router
I just downloaded the manual for your router and couldn't find any info on hard resets for it. I'm assuming your system can at least see the router, or you wouldn't have seen the setup screen. Can you ping the router ?

You have the hard part done.
Just use the setup tab on the router control panel to program you internet info. (This is the same information your computer uses to access your modem (ISP) If your using a ppoe connection just select that option, or use get your IP automatically. Then enter your username and password. thats basically all you need to do initially. Save your settings, then power EVERYTHING DOWN. (Just unplug the power from the linksys for a minute) you only have to do this on rare occasion when your modem gets stuck and you need to reset everything. (do NOT reboot your linksys by pushing the reset button--this erases all of the info you just put in) Restart your modem... wait until it is back up and blinking happily. then plug the power back into the linksys and WAIT until it is blinking happily. Then start your computer. (Use your networking wizard to set up your connection--But if you can ping your router then it sounds like you already have this set up). Make sure you use the correct option in the networking wizard) After everything is up and running you should be able to access the internet. In order to connect all of your computers together you need to run the networking wizard on all of the computers and set up your filesharing parameters. Initially in XP only your shared folder will be shared between computers. If you want to share specific drives or files you must set those up individually for each computer.

Another thing you might want to try is to contact your isp, even if you are a dhcp client, they alot of times have your NIC card's MAC address cached, I know some isp's don't allow routers so just tell them you changed NIC cards in ur puter.
As for accessing the router through the browser on the local intranet, there shouldn't really be a problem unless one of the cat5 cables might be bad. Just some suggestions, let us know what ya find out. |

Yeah I had a problem one when I setting up a cable internet and network for a customer of mine. I bought cat5 wall jack equipment, plate and the jack that the cat5 plugs into. The jack I bought was bad and I went for a few days pulling my hair trying to fix the problem, so I had to test the lines and the jacks to see what was bad.
