Port Mapping

I have posted on other forums but no one had anything constructive to offer, hopefully you guys can help me.....

OK heres my problem:

I am on a network between myself my younger bro and my older bro, my older bro is the one who has the direct connection to the internet through a cable modem and myself and my younger brother leech off his connection through windows connection sharing.
Now ive just started to use "Emule" and am getting the dreaded "Low ID" tag . Someone told me that i need to forward ports off my older bro (Who has the direct connection) to my computer to get a high ID. Ive downloaded AnalogX's port mapper and installed it on his computer and filled out the required info (e.g. my i.p, which ports to share" etc).
But at the mo i am currently stuck, it asks for me to fill out a box "Enter target (I.e localhost)". Do any of you know what this means, if so can you tell me what to put?

Thanks in advance!

Instead of all that!

I would suggest a cheap $50 dollar router. ie (link-sys)
I also have the low ID in e-mule and I am direct connect with almost t-1 speeds.

BTW Because you are not part of a domain your small network uses a localhost name of (workgroup) or (home) as the default.

Take Unite's advice--He knows what he is talking about.

Best part of the router is that once you have set up your home lan (all the puters connect to the router and the router connects to the internet) then you no longer have to keep the gateway puter on for the others to access the internet. Any puter can access and use the internet at any time.

You can forward ports to a specific computer

The Router itself also serves as a firewall for added protection.

Basically, the router is on all the time and connected. Everything else connects to the router. Makes sharing files/transfers very easy, simple Lan game setup, etc -- or not if you so choose.

Home Lan's rock!

I have had a few friends over for a little home lan party!

Nothing better than being fragged by your friends!

Routers are the way to go for sharing your connection...........Make sure your ports are configured correctly.

I posted heer before..got lost due the transfer..but like I said I have home network and I am connected to my younger brother. We have Linksys 4-Port Router, then it is conneceted to a cable modem. By having this you don't have to have your brother's computer on 24-7 to connect the internet. Plus files will go directly to your computer and don't have through your brother's. And yes games, games, games,...it is great to have a LAN Game party over...

Our cable modem is connected to the computer through a USB cable, so can we still use the link sys router?

Try WinRoute is the best soft router.

It can manage port mapping, proxy server and many more features.

Jay-Jay.. no you cannot. You will need to plug it in via a regular Category 5 straight through cable. Which plugs into the router.. then you plug both of you PC's via the network cards into the router.

Well if you purchased a network card.. I am sure you can get an ADSL modem that can plug in via the patch cable.

Network cards are about 15(US) bucks.. and that alone may solve your connection problem. USB is a little quirky at times.. I have never tried it for an internect connection.

Woot good to hear Jay-Jay.. if you have any problem getting it set up just hollar.

I am sure I can find a nice easy netowrk map example to show how it all connects.. or explain it.

Most newer cable modems and routers usually have two connecting to it...usb and RJ45 Ethernet connect, standard networking cable....
