Best Software Help???
I am finally breaking down and getting a video card. My question is I want to have a TV OUT ability so what is the best software to run on a TV. I have WinXP Home with only PCI slots so I am looking the a older ATI card for my PC even thought the PC is not that old. The brand did not include a AGP slot. The PC is 1.1Mhz with 256meg and 40 gig drive. It
should more them able to handle a TV Out ATI Radeon 7000. The plain is to view divx files mostly. VCDs as well. I do not want to spend anything or very little. So what is the best software to view Divx/VCDs on the TV. Any info would help. There are tons programs for watching on a PC but almost nothing ment to wacth stuff on the TV. |

I have an ATI Rage Fury 32 MB video card. I hooked up the TV via the tv out to view DVDs.
The quality was awful! It changed the resolution setting for my comp to 800x600 (I guess that was to match the resolution of the TV) I had to reset everything every time I used the TV out feature. (I set it at 1024x768 normally)I have a 27" Sony TV. This may be due to the age of the video card, but my bud has a brand new All-in-Wonder and he says the same thing. I was very disappointed in the picture quality on the TV and no longer bother with it.

Best Software Help/tv out
thanks for the info rastagard
new Sony TV's can go up to 100 (mhz?) what a waste if you can't use it. or it not usable there must be a way to change the output otherwise what the point. will look in to this. Evil_Diet_Coke it maybe a idea to rename this topic to TV OUT HOW2/etc to get more info on this as this was something i was going to get a laptop or setup a pc for. |

what i use for tv out....
I use an S3 Savage4 32 mb graphic card with tv out, it works fine on my 28 inch wharfdale tv, good pic quality, i have to switch it through right clicking desktop, then going into advanced options in there, takes about a minute to set it up, the screen then looks wide on monitor but fine on tv - which is the main thing.
a bit tweaky to set up but worth it. got it for 20 pound at pc fayre, along with 10 metre leads kit for a tenner - pretty good deal. main thing is to get the latest driver for card. hope that helps.

Heres a Sharereactor link that might be helpful for nVidia based tv-out(TNT 1 or higher).
I use a cheap gforce2($60) for tv-out, and have no problem just using the video mirror settings in the advanced driver (detonator) options. I don't use any additional software, everyone can watch a divx on the tube while I browse UTC. Also my media player of choice, Zoomplayer, is supposed to be optimized for tv-output. |

i am running a p2 350 with 128 megs or ram with a cheesy old ati agp card with rca out on the back .. this card allows 60hz out, my desktop can only be 640x480 x256 on the tv .. however i have been running this setup for almost 2 years because divx movies look perfect + its great for a stereo .. i put the sound out from the sound card into my reciever .. a good addon is a wireless mouse and keyboard as the keyboard can be used nicely with winamp to change songs u are listening to (B) .. i have this computer networked to my "office" computer which is on cable .. i do not have internet on the TV because the resolution thing , most webpages look really bad 640x480 .. another drawback of my setup is the ability to play games, golden tee golf works great ... nothing else really does...
a friend of mine is using a viper v770 with rca out on the back and he is able to switch the desktop to 1024x768 which makes playing Unreal tournament really fun .. the difference in mine and his video cards is mine is hardware controlled his is software .. software is better but may be harder to setup. all in all if u can set this up it rules for divx movies, plus tv shows and whatever other videos u watch :] i don't recommend setting this up if u only have one computer. oh and i burn alot of the divx movies on cds (the ones that fit) as a cdrom makes a great player and cheaper then a dvd player. and one more thing .. i have another friend ( i told all my friends to make this setup :] ) who is using a cheesy pci card with rca out that cost him $40 .. his setup is the same more or less as mine. my tv is a 32" sony trinitron hope this helps .. |

I have a ATI Radion 8500DV and i run my video out to a 36" JVC tv. it will let me set the screen size and refresh rate to anything I want. i dont use it much except for DivX movies (someone else said that too) but it works great. i think that ATI is the best for things like that.
