NUTNDUN is on a distinguished road
Is this all within the same couple of hours after XP is installed? or is it spread over a period of time, like install it one day then it starts acting goofy a week later or install it and within an hour or so it starts acting goofy? If it is all within a short period of time, it sounds like it is a shortage of memory or an overheating problem. I have 256 mb memory in my box and XP still wants more, and XP is definately more resource intensive then any other windows OS so overheating can be an issue if the cpu heatsink is clogged with dust or there isn't enough airflow through the case. System specs would be helpful too.

Hi cwadd....

You might try going to your Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer...and check the logs (specifically; the Application and System logs) to see if you can determine the cause of the shutdowns from the info in the log files.

I agree with gbread also try to get your hands on a copy of Norton SystemWorks. It can do a diagnose test on Windows and several of your hardware like hard drive.

How big's your power supply? That could cause it to do that. You should have at least a 350 watt imo.

Hey Chris!

Give us a list of your pc specs........

SisSoft Sandra is a utility that tells you all the specs of your computer, from frequency to memorey, to cpu time, all the way down to the last time you SPILLED VODKA on your motherboard. (In Joke)

Also for your registry needs, try RegCleaner...........pm Roadblock for the link...........I forgot it..........!

Once we have a littlebit more info from you, then we can look at what might be causing the problems......

I dont think resources are the problem. Are you using a hacked or cracked copy of XP? How about cleaning up your hard drive, (defrag etc) and then doing a CLEAN reinstall... I had similar problems with my computer (a different OS though) and thats what I did, and knock on wood, I have not had any trouble since..,

All those seem to be fine...................(ie.... your hardware)

Try fister's suggestion. ( If you are using a downloaded version of XP, I'd suggest you find another, as that one might be corrupt.)

If the problems persist, you can always go to the forums @ TechTalk for further assistance.
