Hi Elizabeth,,,,,yep, heard of "Archie", never used it though. As I remember it is primarily used for searching FTP's. Only problem d/l'ing DIRECTLY from an unknown FTP is that you really never know what you are getting until you have it d/l'ed. (File/program names are often truncated, version numbers not added to the file name, etc....)
As far as searching the web in general, "Google" is the way to go! ......and Welcome to UTC. Hope you enjoy the pasture.....

Ummm, I'm not exactly a newbie, but theres still a lot of stuff I don't know. I kinda know about ftp, as far as uploading stuff to my pitiful little website goes, but what are we talking about here? Is there some way to share files with it? Is there a program needed to look for and d/l from it?
Any explanations would be greatly appreciated..... |

well first off id suggest u get an ftp client... http://smartftp.com go there and download the smartftp client which is sooo kool. and look at the readme and that should tell u all u need to know
enjoy ![]() now look for an ftp server that has whatever u may be looking for and try to get a user name and password many servers are private so u will need a uer name and password and...enjoy many times there is an upload to download ratio that u'll have to follow if not u may be banned from that server. [check here] |

Thanks, napro, but I'm afraid I'm pretty lost here.

Am I making this more complicated then it is or is this something only advanced users should get into. As I said before I am not a newbie, but I definately favor simplicity and ease of use over complicated and technical stuff. Thanks for your help and if this is something that would require more than 20 minutes of poring over a tutorial then maybe it isn't really for me. I have found some of the p2p programs to be more complicated than others and I guess I could master them if there was a compelling reason, but so far I have not really thought of one. If someone could simplify this for me I would appreciate it, however if it really is as complicated as it seems, maybe I will wait till there are no other options for p2p before I tackle this. |

I don't suppose "stuff" would help you any?
I have been at this for a while and to be honest it is hard for me to come up with new things to look for. In general I go for a little of everything, Music, Software, Videos and yes even the occasional Adult material . The only thing I haven't really gone for is movies. Most are cam versions with asian subtitles and I prefer to just rent em or buy em when they come out on DVD. One of the things I like about p2p is the variety of things out there that I have discovered by doing user searches. I never would have thought to look for tattoos, but found one someone had and have been searching for them since. This is part of the experience I like most. It is kinda fun to check someones files and try to imagine what they are like. But I digress. I would say that music and software are the things I am primarily looking for. |
