fujitsu hardrives

With the problems fujitsu have been having, I was just wondering what you folks would use as a good durable drive. I have a 40 gig fujitsu as d drive now, tomorrow I will check the serial #s to see if it is one of the ones they know have problems.
I was going to use it as my c drive, but I might get a better one for that and just keep the old one for d. Heck I back it all up anyway. Just wondering. And thanks in advance.

I wouldn't recommend Fujitsu drives. Reason being, I had one (about 8 months old) seize up..the motor fried. Luckily I did have a little warning from my HD monitoring program, so I got the chance to back up most of my important stuff. The drive seized up within 24 hours of the first warning.

I also had a friend loose 2 westerns in one year, and that is why I started this thread. So we can all share our good luck, and or bad. If we do this we might just save some problems. If we had bad luck with a case with a underated powersupply, or whatever. Just try to pass it along.

You brought up an interesting point Hunter..."the power supply"..
This is probably the most overlooked and in many cases the "hidden" culprit in hardware related problems. If the power supply is not up to the task of providing the amps to your hardware, quaranteed you are gonna run into problems. Just adding that one extra card or RAM stick, could be enough to overtax your PS and cause problems or failures with other devices.

PWR supplies

The reason I took a while to respond is this takes a bit of thought. I had to compare a few systems. The case I have is a A-Open with a 250 watt power supply,My friend has a no name one witha 350 watt supply, you know the type the ones that are always on sale. The systems are very similar, but his has crashed a lot with 2 different cases. We put his guts in my case and no problem. It turned out that either my supply was underated or his was overated, but his voltage was dropping under load.

Just taking a guess, I'd say that your friends case (power supply) was overrated. Just because it said 350W doesn't mean it would perform properly. Most of the "on-name" cases use the cheapest PS they can get their hands on. For what its worth, I'd rather pay the extra 20 or 30 bucks for a brand name case and know I'm getting a quality PS with it.

A simple way to compare PS's is by their WEIGHT! Good quality PS's always weigh more than the generic/cheap brands. Reason....because the quality units are made with high quality, heavy components.
