AutoComplete Password lost!!!

i have winxp prof running in my system...i had enable the autocomplete password feature in internet explorer 6.0 ....i suddenly had to format my system due to a crash....(formatted only the c: drive)..now i have lost all the auotcomplete passwords....is there any way to recover them again!!!!! pls help!!! vikram

tip get yourself a book to keep all your passwords in,
as you have now found the pc is not the best place to keep em,
sorry but it looks like you have to start again,is it just the password for winxp prof your looking for?

Or use a single password FOR EVERYTHING on the computer..like me hehe

i'm not familiar with data recovery, but i think it'll be pretty difficult to get those passwords back. maybe someone who knows about that stuff could tell you if getting those files back is possible.

I hate to tell you vikod but when you format your computer you lose everything...passwords that you have, people in your address book, bookmarks/favorites, etc. The passwords in IE can't be backup they are just saved in IE and there is no way to save them. I backup all my useful info like favorites, address book, saved software... But pretty much there is nothing you can do about the password recover...sorry...

as he has formated the drive! maybe even installed win over the top!
he would need a another drive to use, so he can send the drive for data recovery. cost? about the same as a new drive! just not worth it.
deleted files can be recovered as it only the TOC that has been changed, but from format? i say no, hope i'm wrong

but the below is just for info on how to back up u r autocomplete passwords!!!

AutoComplete registry key

Internet Explorer has a feature called AutoComplete that saves entries you've typed in Web addresses, forms, and passwords. This information is encrypted and stored in your systems registry. The registry is a database that storea a systems configuration information. Generally, when dealing with the registry, you must be very careful not to delete or move anything unless you're a trained professional. Doing so could leave your system inoperable.

The AutoComplete password list is stored in the registry key called:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\InternetExplo rer\IntelliForms\SPW

To backup the AutoComplete password key, follow these directions:

Left-click on the Start menu and then Run or press and release the Windows button + R.

Type "regedit" (without quotes) and hit enter.

Single-click the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder to expand its contents.

Single-click the Software folder to expand its contents.

Single-click the Microsoft folder to expand its contents.

Single-click the Internet Explorer to expand its contents.

Single-click the IntelliForms folder to expand its contents.

Single-click the SPW folder. You should see an encrypted list of registry entries in the right-window pane.

With the SPW folder selected, go to the Registry menu and select Export Registry file.

Name the file accordingly and remember where you save it.

Include this file when you backup your data

LOL.....well, being a trained professional Pharmacist it looks like I qualify (by microsoft standards anyway) to deal with the registry.

Hehe, Cannot possibly count the number of times I have screwed up things in the registry--> but Hey, I am good at somehow getting it working again.

I turn that aout stuff off...........It irks me abit when I want to enter some info and something is already there.

I just use 2 different names and 3 different passwords. They are from certain events that I'll never forget.........and I use them daily.

Auto fill in makes you lazy and allows you to forget your password. A hosed hd with passwords on it doesn't slow me down!

(PS, this is my opinion, subject to scrutiny, as is everything I post, by qualified persons in logical areas that are not neccesarily related to the topic/subject but in large, relevant to the foundation of the arguement in hand.)
