Is it possible to power up a power supply without actually having a motherboard connected ?

If so how cos I got a bare tower and the power supply won't fire up !

Thumbs up

madamente.

If is possible. What it should do is puentear/unite with a cable the following two terminals of the slip ATX that goes conec- tada to the motherboard. Those two terminals are: mass and the termi- nal al which a cable arrives that in some cases is of green color and in other cases is of gray color and that this connected to the plate of the fountain to a point that says REMOTE. When you do this really that the ventilador of the fountain begins to function and in the slips are the 5V and 12V. If not you desire to do the bridge desc ripto another form is to measure the tension that there is in the terminal REMOTE and that is worth 3,3 V aproxi- madamente.

Actually it depends on what kind of PSU you have. Some power supplies used to be poorly designed in that if they were fired up without being connected to something, they burned out...quickly.
At some point some genius got the bright idea to put kind of an internal warning system in PSUs so they couldn't be turned on without being connected to a mobo.

Don't ask me the details...that's how was explained to me after I fried the PSU of an old 486 in a class I took.:o
