Softice & XP?

Anyone some xperience with softice on windows XP?
got si405nt.
Wich should work for XP since it's just a NT anyway.
Then get an error 127 in a dos window (not sure anymore about the error code)
Also got nticeWinXP_patch. but that doesn't even let me boot XP!
Get an error regarding siwvid.sys bla, bla, bla,........ won't boot.
Anyone out there with some pointers or links with info?
Also got ME running on a dif. partition.
Anyone have some xperience with softice on ME?
What's the deal with the NVDIA videocard chipset and Sice? ('cause I got one but can't seem to get any usefull info or drivers for it)
And does it matter that I'm running a AMD instead of Intel.
Personaly I think not but maybe a guru out there can convince me of the opposite.

Anyone still there???
For now just a bunch of Q on how to get it working.
Had enough of reading crapy forums about this, that end up in flaming each other
(Had this one posted under "request" also, but I think this should be it's place.)
Thanx Admins

feel free to remove the other one i posted

What are you trying to do, maybe there is an alternative. I successfuly ran w32dasm on XP a couple months ago, would that work for you?

I'd like to do some reverse enginering on some progs.
Let me put it this way, I wanna TRY to do some RE.
You know, "fix" the programs that are cripled with a 30 day trial or that need a cd every time.
About every site I've visited and read regarding this refers to Softice.

W32DASM + any decent hex editor will do most of that for you. You might want to give it a shot.

Just a unedgemakted guess but don't ME and XP (according to bill...) not use DOS (as if).
also I agree with bryce223, give W32DASM a go.

This site might help you out if you wanna try others,

always worth a look.

Doobie
I had softice running on Win2K without problems. I'm running Win98SE and XP on the *same* partition but I haven't used softice since going to XP.

the thing soft ice is that you can RE time cripled aplications.
that isn't possible with wdasm as far as I know.Since you can't put a break point when you run the prog. Got wdasm and a hex. BTW.
Thanx for the comments/suggestions/links.

w32dasm definately not as full featured as SoftIce but you should be able to set breakpoints. Your right about most tutorials assuming your using SoftIce. I did find one that was W32dasm specific:
http://www.geocities.com/reversersgr...asdebugger.htm

It may be a little dated(plus missing screenshots )but worth a look.
