Wireless Internet Connection
My gf is looking to hook her laptop up to her cell phone for Internet access. She currently has an account with AOL.
1) They sell a modem as well as a special connecting cord to connect the modem to the cell phone. If she already has a 56k modem, can she get away with just buying the connector? 2) What kind of speeds can she expect? Yes, I know 56k sucks, but how much worse is it over a cell line? 3) How does reception effect the connection. At her appartment, she doesn't get a very good signal, how will this effect the connection. Thanks guys, -JRW |

If you find out let me know. I am a Suncom subscriber, and I just found out that my new phone is equipped to act as a modem. As far I know, the phone is the key. Has to do with signal wavelength and other supertech crap. You know how cell phones use node sites and pretty much signal jump from one node to the next based on strength? Well, that same reason limits the use of a cell phone to connect to the internet (unless stationary) . Apparently, now there is a way to remain connected while traveling over a said distance. -That's all I know-
