no desktop or startbar
please can anyone give me any advice my operating system is windows xp and everytime i reboot i find that there is no desktop or startbar. The only way i can access programs is through alt control and delete and usung task manager. i have looked on the processers and there is no explorer.exe and when i go to run it u can see the start bar appear across bottom of screen then go away again straight away.i was thaninking about rebooting but i cant find ma xp disk so i dnt think thats possible or is it? any help on my problem?............................thanks

hi naylor
when u go to safe mode do u see startbar and desktop ? how to go safe mode ? press F8 while booting to get menu in dos mode choose safe mode then go safe mode btw where is your cd xp ? |

This will hopefully fix it.
1. first run it through the task manager so u have something to work with 2. go to you system32 folder and file explorer.exe, right click it and press send to desktop 3. go to your desktop and find the shortcut, right click it and select cut 4. navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and paste it in there. 5. reboot and test if it worked |

sounds like a virus i would do a repair with a windows cd that would fix the issue if it was a virus

Sounds like your Explorer.exe is damaged. Try running it in safe mode like Thumderbird suggested. Does it run normally? Perhaps your registry is corrupted. This may help.
